Meghalaya as its name suggests is a land of celestial beauty. With its exceptional serenity, Shillong has inspired writers, seers, freedom fighters and revolutionaries. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s creativity got stimulated by the surroundings of this region and he wrote the novel ‘Shesher Kobita’. At St. Edmund’s College, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose delivered a stirring speech for freedom. Swami Vivekananda in Quinton Memorial Hall, presently known as the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, famously compared life as akin to a pilgrimage.

I am happy to meet tribal brothers and sisters of Meghalaya gathered here in large numbers. I was really looking forward to interact with you. When I landed in Meghalaya, I experienced that this state is indeed uniquely blessed by Mother Nature.

I am delighted to participate in this programme and interact with the women of self-help groups of Meghalaya today. During my visits to various states and union territories, I have met and interacted with many SHGs of women. During these interactions, I have noted that they all are happier and more satisfied in their lives after they started earning and contributing economically to their families. The women of rural and remote areas have discovered a new version of themselves by joining such self-help groups.

I am delighted to attend the inauguration ceremony of the multisport event - Meghalaya Games. I extend my best wishes to all the participating sportspersons. I am confident that they will put up a remarkable show in this edition of the Meghalaya Games.

स्वच्छ भारत मिशन Urban को निरंतर आगे बढ़ाने के लिए केंद्र सरकार में आवासन और शहरी कार्य मंत्री, श्री हरदीप पुरी जी और उनकी टीम को मैं साधुवाद देती हूं।

आज उपाधि प्राप्त करने वाले सभी students को मैं हार्दिक बधाई देती हूं। इस अवसर पर ILBS की पूरी टीम को भी मैं साधुवाद देती हूं। सभी students के परिवार-जनों को मैं विशेष बधाई देती हूं।

प्यारे बच्चों आप सब का राष्ट्रपति भवन में हार्दिक स्वागत है। यह आपका ही भवन है।

गौरवमय परम्पराओं की भूमि राजस्थान में आकर मुझे अत्यन्त हर्ष का अनुभव हो रहा है। राजस्थान वीरता की परंपरा के साथ ही अपनी इंद्रधनुषी संस्कृति, अध्यात्म, खान-पान, वेश-भूषा, लोक-संगीत और नाटक, स्थानीय चित्रकला आदि के लिए भी प्रसिद्ध है। राजस्थानवासी ‘पधारो म्हारे देस’ की भावना से अतिथि-सत्कार के लिए जाने जाते हैं। इस राज्य ने शांति, सद्भाव और भक्ति के अनेक आदर्श प्रस्तुत किए हैं जिसमें गरीब-नवाज़ ख्वाजा मोइनुद्दीन चिश्ती, मीरा बाई और पन्ना धाय जैसे महान उदाहरण हैं। इस धरती को मैं नमन करती हूं। 

शिक्षा और स्वास्थ्य से जुड़े कार्यक्रमों को मैं विशेष महत्व देती हूं। शिक्षा के माध्यम से ही जीवन में आगे बढ़ने के द्वार खुलते हैं। अच्छे स्वास्थ्य के बल पर ही कोई भी व्यक्ति सक्रिय रह सकता है।
