I am delighted to confer the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development to Sir Shridath Ramphal, the former Secretary General of the Commonwealth. We all know that Sir Ramphal has served with great distinction on numerous international commissions that addressed global issues. His role as an ardent internationalist striving for increased global cooperation and improved global governance is well known and the award of this prize is a fitting recognition of his invaluable contribution towards developing world.

RURAL PROSPERITY: CHALLENGES

I am indeed delighted to participate in the inaugural function of the Seva Nilayam of the Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS). The concept of empowering rural population is indeed very important. I am happy to know the various initiatives of Rashtriya Seva Samithi which is operating in three states, namely, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa. It has its presence in over 2000 villages employing 3700 volunteers.

I am indeed delighted to be in this divine campus for participating in the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Sri Venkateswara University. I take this opportunity to congratulate all those who have contributed in promoting excellence in educational standards of this University during last five decades. The University has made significant contribution in enhancing the higher education level of the people in the Rayalaseema region.

Address at the Launch of the First School of Excellence Under the Aegis of Punjab Technical University (PTU)

I am indeed delighted to be here at the beautiful city of Chandigarh during the launch of the First School of Excellence under the aegis of Punjab Technical University. I recall that the Government of Punjab had announced a grant of Rs.6 crores to enable the PTU to start six new schools of excellence. I am glad that the first one in this series is the School of Total Quality Management and Entrepreneurship which is now being established in collaboration with the Gian Jyoti Trust through the formation of PTU's Gian Jyoti School of Entrepreneurship and TQM Society.
