The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil inaugurated the National Immunization Day by administering Polio Vaccines to children at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 18, 2012. Over the last one year India has not recorded even a single case of polio. In the past a large share of polio cases in the world, were reported from India. The Nationwide Campaign begins tomorrow, and it is hoped that over the next two years, not a single case would be reported, so that India can be declared polio free in January 2014.

The President presented 12 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, 1 Kirti Chakra (posthumously), 1 Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal, 3 Bar to Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, 26 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, and 14 Shaurya Chakra Medals (3 of them posthumously).

Pratibha Devisingh Patil met students from Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 19, 2012 that participated in the tour organized under Operation Sadbhavana by the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles.During the tour the group of students visited Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Speaking to the students, the President urged them to use the opportunity to see and understand the country. She said India is a large and diverse country, but within diversity, is the important element of unity.
