Born on 8 February, 1897 in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Zakir Hussain established the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi. He completed his Doctorate in economics from Berlin in 1923 and translated Plato’s Republic in Urdu in 1920. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and was the Indian representative on the Executive Board of UNESCO from 1956 to 1958. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1963.

Standing in profile, he is seen wearing a white bandhgala. The white churidar is proportioned to accentuate his built with black shoes and a Gandhi topi. His white beard in French style compliments thick moustache in its downward angle. His right hand holds a walking stick and the left hand holds a book. He died in 1969 while in office, ending a short stint of two years as President of India from 1967-1969.

K.K. Hebbar, one of India’s most well known painters was born in 1911. He was interested in arts from his childhood and studied at the J.J. School of Arts in 1940. He was Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1980 and became the President of the Bombay Art Society in 1990. He was felicitated with the Padma Shri award in 1961 and the Padma Bhushan award in 1989.
