Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation has been represented in a freeze of moment while walking by R.H. Miller. The body is in frontal stance, looking towards the observer with a slight smile. The bald head gives prominence to large ears while the eyes are encased in his round spectacles. He is seen wearing a knee-length dhoti with a cloth wrapped around his shoulders exposing his bare chest. The legs form a forward movement which is highlighted by his brown chappals.

The background shows a rough sandscape with green trees painted in distant view, representing Miller’s admiration for nature.

An antique watch hangs from his waist while both his hands are folded which portray the aspect of respect towards all. A shadow behind the form of Gandhiji represents an individualistic approach to this painting with minimalistic elements.

Another prominent painting of Mahatama Gandhi, painted by Venkatesh D. forms an important element of the repository of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 and was imprisoned for many years on several occasions in South Africa and India. He died on 30 January 1948.
