Honorable Members,

1. This is my first address in this new Parliament building. This magnificent building has been constructed at the beginning of “Azadi ka Amrit Kaal”.

It is imbued with the fragrance of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and is a testimony to India’s civilization and culture.

It also resonates with the resolve to respect our democratic and parliamentary traditions.

Moreover, it embodies the commitment to forge new traditions for the new India of the 21st century.

यह कई मायनों में एक ऐतिहासिक और यादगार क्षण है। शायद ही कभी ऐसा हुआ होगा, कि दो देशों के नेता, लगातार एक-दूसरे के राष्ट्रीय दिवस परेड और समारोह में मुख्य अतिथि रहे हैं।

हमारी दोस्ती की गहराई और हमारी साझेदारी की मजबूती का, 14 जुलाई 2023 और 26 जनवरी 2024 से बेहतर कोई प्रतीक नहीं हो सकता।

आज, भारत के निर्वाचन आयोग के पचहत्तरवें स्थापना दिवस तथा राष्ट्रीय मतदाता दिवस के अवसर पर मैं सभी देशवासियों को हार्दिक बधाई देती हूं। चुनाव प्रक्रिया में सराहनीय योगदान देने के लिए चुने गए सभी पुरस्कार विजेताओं को मैं विशेष बधाई देती हूं।

आज मुझे आप सभी के बीच उपस्थित होकर हार्दिक प्रसन्नता हो रही है। खासकर यहां आए हुए बच्चों को देखकर मुझे बहुत खुशी हो रही है। यह पुरस्कार समारोह young achievers की अद्भुत क्षमता और प्रतिभा को प्रोत्साहित करने का अवसर है। यह बच्चों की उपलब्धियों का उत्सव मनाने का अवसर भी है। मैं सभी पुरस्कार विजेता बच्चों को बहुत-बहुत बधाई देती हूँ।

Meghalaya as its name suggests is a land of celestial beauty. With its exceptional serenity, Shillong has inspired writers, seers, freedom fighters and revolutionaries. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s creativity got stimulated by the surroundings of this region and he wrote the novel ‘Shesher Kobita’. At St. Edmund’s College, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose delivered a stirring speech for freedom. Swami Vivekananda in Quinton Memorial Hall, presently known as the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, famously compared life as akin to a pilgrimage.

I am happy to meet tribal brothers and sisters of Meghalaya gathered here in large numbers. I was really looking forward to interact with you. When I landed in Meghalaya, I experienced that this state is indeed uniquely blessed by Mother Nature.

I am delighted to participate in this programme and interact with the women of self-help groups of Meghalaya today. During my visits to various states and union territories, I have met and interacted with many SHGs of women. During these interactions, I have noted that they all are happier and more satisfied in their lives after they started earning and contributing economically to their families. The women of rural and remote areas have discovered a new version of themselves by joining such self-help groups.

I am delighted to attend the inauguration ceremony of the multisport event - Meghalaya Games. I extend my best wishes to all the participating sportspersons. I am confident that they will put up a remarkable show in this edition of the Meghalaya Games.
