Roshni Programme Completes Two Years As President Of India Enters Fourth Year In Office

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil attended a function in the President's Estate today to commemorate two years of the Roshni Programme. The Programme completed two years today as the President completed three years in office and entered the fourth year. Under the Roshni Programme the President's Estate achieved the distinction of receiving the ISO 14001:2004 Certificate from the Bureau Veritas India (BVI). The prestigious Certificate was presented to the President of India by BVI at the function. This makes the President's Estate the first urban habitat to receive this certification.
The President lauded the efforts of the officers, staff and residents of the President's Estate in working together and providing their whole hearted contribution in making the Roshni Programme a success as well as for their efforts in achieving ISO certification. The President said changing people's mindsets and attitudes was the key to bringing perceptible and sustainable change in their habitats. The President also said that this was the key not only to issues related with the environment but also for eradication of the many social evils in society. Concluding her remarks, the President urged the officers, staff and residents of the Estate not to be content with their achievements, but to continue to improve the stiff standards which they have set for themselves.
The Union Minister of Urban Development, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kum. Selja, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit and the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the
Ministry of Women and Child Development, Smt. Krishna Tirath were amongst those present at the function.
