President Meets Members Of Jalgaon Zila Mahila Assoication
Rashtrapati Bhavan : 09.01.2008
The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil met the members of the Jalgaon Zila Mahila Association at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, 2008.
During the meeting, the President urged the members to relentlessly work for the welfare of women. The President said that a number of laws and programmes for the benefit of women are in existence at present or are in the process of implementation. The members of social welfare organisations should work with commitment so that the benefits are received by every single woman in the country. Smt. Patil asked the members to be facilitators in this process. Referring to female foeticide practiced in many parts of the country, the President asked the women to establish a dialogue with expectant mothers so that they would resist such negative practices. The President once again emphasised the grave danger that a dis-balance in male-female ratio due to female foeticide would create in society.
The members of the Mahila Association presented a memorandum to the President seeking corrective actions in implementation of Acts for the benefit of women and prevention of crime against women.
