President of India Greets Teachers on the Occasion of Teachers' Day

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has greeted all the teachers in the country, on the occasion of Teachers' Day today.

The President has said from St. Petersburg, where she is currently on a State Visit to Russia, that teachers in India have always received special respect. In ancient times teachers were considered as persons with deep commitment to creating a desire in their students to search for knowledge. Teachers also shared their knowledge with all those who sought it, without any selfishness. The President has said that now in the 21st Century, as India pursues its efforts to develop its human resource so that they can become even more competitive at the global level, the importance of our teachers at all levels of education, assumes greater importance. The President has said that she is confident that our teachers shall fulfill this responsibility with dedication.
