President Expresses Her Anguish Over the Tragic Loss of Lives & Damage to Property Caused Due to Tropical Cyclone in Myanmar

The President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, has expressed her deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and widespread damage to property caused due to the tropical cyclone that hit Myanmar on 2nd & 3rd May, 2008.

In a condolence message to H.E. Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman, State Peace and Development Council, Union of Myanmar, the President has said, "On behalf of the Government and the people of India, as well as on my own behalf, I convey my deep condolences to your Excellency and through you to the members of the bereaved families. We are sending some immediate relief supplies to provide succour for those affected among the friendly people of Myanmar. India stands ready to assist Myanmar to cope with this tragedy".
