The President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, has expressed her deep grief over the passing away of Pandit Kishan Maharaj.

In a condolence message to his son, Pandit Puran Maharaj, the President has said, "Pandit Kishan Maharaj left his indelible mark in the world of Indian classical music. He was a tabla maestro, known for rendering the most complex rhythms with ease. In his passing away the nation has lost a great and renowned artiste who was an inspiration to our young generation".
