President Condoles the Passing Away of Baba Amte

The President, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has condoled from Jalgaon, Maharashtra, the passing away of Baba Amte, noted social activist and Magsaysay award winner.

In her condolence message to his wife Smt. Sadhana Tai Amte, the President has said, "Despite hailing from a well to do family, Baba Amte dedicated his life to uphold Gandhian philosophy by working hard to wipe away tears from the eyes of poor and needy. He also devoted his life to the cause of leprosy sufferers and fought against social injustice. Baba Amte was a unique example of a person who committed his whole life for the welfare of the destitute and needy."
