President Calls on Ayurveda Researchers, Scholars and Experts to Work on Pharmacopoeia, Patenting and Standardisation

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has called on Ayurvada researchers, scholars and experts to further strengthen their efforts to work on patenting and standardisation of ayurvedic products as well as come out with detailed pharmacopoeia of these medical products. The President while speaking during the presentation of the Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Puraskar function at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, said such efforts would give a boost to the exports of ayurvedic medicine.
Smt. Patil said the Ayurvedic medicine system has many advantages, which need to be brought out and made known to the people in a more active way. Ayurvedic products must establish their identity, as it is an affordable system for the economically weaker sections of society, she emphasised. Speaking about her visit to Brazil, Mexico and Chile last month, the President said during her discussions with the leaders there, she spoke about the Ayurvedic system of medicine and presented CDs with details. The President said she told the leaders that not only can ayurvedic medicines be effective but they can also be cost effective, thus making them affordable for the common man. Smt. Patil said this information and presentation was much appreciated by the leaders of these countries.
