Creche For Children Of Labourers Opened At President's Estate

At the initiative of the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, a cr�che for the benefit of children of labourers working in Rashtrapati Bhavan was inaugurated by Smt. Chachimma Christy, the spouse of the Secretary to the President, Dr. Christy Fernandez.

The cr�che, called Sopan (the first step to success), is located in the President's Estate and will cater at present to about 20 to 25 children in the 3 to 6 year age group. The President of India, felt the need to start this facility as there are a number of labourers working in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The capacity of the cr�che would be increased in the future, if a need is felt for the same. Nutritious food would be provided to the children and would be open six days a week, except Sundays. The cr�che is being staffed by 2 attendants and 2 helpers who are spouses of employees of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
