The President Releases Commemorative Postage Stamp on the India International Centre, New Delhi

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil released the Commemorative Postage Stamp and First Day Cover on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the India International Centre, New Delhi (IIC) at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 9, 2012. The IIC was inaugurated in 1962 by the then Vice-President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The Founder President of the Centre, Dr. C.D. Deshmukh wanted it to be a place where 'various currents of intellectual, political and economic thought could meet freely'. Its purpose stated in its charter, was 'to promote understanding and amity between the different communities of the world.'
