The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has called on every Indian to rededicate themselves to the ideals of Motilal Nehru. The President was speaking at a special function to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of late Shri Motilal Nehru held in New Delhi.
Remembering late Shri Motilal Nehru, the President described him as a "constitutional agitator" who believed that reforms and change should be achieved through Constitutional means. Shri Motilal Nehru also inspired as much loyalty and enthusiasm among his followers as the admiration of his political adversaries.
The President said we must follow in Motilal Nehru's footprints and respect institutions and strengthen them. We can achieve our goals by strengthening rather than destroying institutions.
Also present on the occasion were Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, UPA; Shri AK Antony, Minister of Defence; Shri P Chidambaram, Minister of Finance; Shri Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development and Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Kumari Selja, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Culture, Dr. Karan Singh, President, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Smt Sangita Gairola, Secretary Ministry of Culture.
