Inaugural Address at the Calcutta Muslim Girls Orphanage

I am delighted to participate in the inaugural function of newly constructed building for English Medium Girls Higher Secondary School of the Calcutta Muslim Orphanage. I am happy that this Orphanage is giving a helping hand to the socially challenged children by providing better facilities and amenities with care and kindness to make them enlightened citizens. This is the greatest service to the humanity and therefore God will be always with you.

Children are our greatest wealth. Every child born in the nation should be allowed to blossom. It is particularly important to provide extra care and facilities to the children, who are not fortunate to have their families to look after them. This noble service should be promoted by all individuals with the help of NGOs and government organizations, leading to the development of enlightened citizens who will become an asset for national development.

Friends, we should note that the human mind is a unique gift. Let us see how we can enrich our life through this resource.

I have received some questions from you which I would like answer now.

1. Your Excellency is reported to have said in the Republic Day Speech only members of the society can root out corruption. Firstly the father, secondly the mother and thirdly the school teacher. Please emphasise?

Ans: In this institution, the organizers and teachers become your role model and they can contribute to your growth as an enlightened citizen.

2. How did you start your career in Education? Was it in a planned way or circumstances led you to become father of missiles?

- Qutbuddin Class-10

Ans: My primary school teacher Shri Siva Subramanian Iyer was responsible for motivating me towards aeronautics. This thought made me plan my education and led to my future career.

3. The Mughal Garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan is said to be one of the best garden in the world. How can we enjoy visiting the Mughal Garden?

Ans: The Mughal Garden is now open for public till March 28th. Anybody can visit and your institution can organize a visit.

4. Which of your two historical,scientific and Technological project gave you more happiness and satisfaction ? Agni Missile or the SLV series?

Ans: Both were equally challenging projects which gave me happiness and satisfaction.

5. Please share with us any of your happy and enthralling moments?

- Fatima Begum, Class ?

Ans: Once I was watching some polio affected children walking with heavy calipers weighing around 3 kg (artificial limb) which they were finding it very difficult to carry. One of my friend who was a doctor asked me why we can?t use some of the light weight material used in the missiles for making the light weight caliper. This gave me an idea and our team made the light weight caliper weighing 300gms within 10 days, which were fitted to the polio affected children. The children started riding the cycles, running and jumping in great joy. This gave me bliss.

Now, I would like to administer the TEN POINT OATH to the children, are you ready?

Ten point oath for the youth of the nation

1. I will pursue my education or the work with dedication and I will excel in it.

2. From now onwards, I will teach at least 10 persons to read and write those who cannot read and write.

3. I will plant at least 10 saplings and shall ensure their growth through constant care.

4. I will visit rural and urban areas and permanently wean away at least 5 persons from addiction and gambling.

5. I will constantly endeavor to remove the pain of my suffering brethren.

6. I will not support any religious, caste or language differentiation.

7. I will be honest and set an example for others to follow.

8. I will work for becoming an enlightened citizen and make my family righteous.

9. I will always be a friend of the mentally and physically challenged and will work hard to make them feel normal, like the rest of us.

10. I will proudly celebrate the success of my country and my people.
