All the mangroves and coral reefs are protected under Coastal Regulation Zone Act. Further, Coral reefs, as species are also protected under Wildlife Protection Act. Various marine Biosphere Reserves and Marine National Parks have been created , for example Sundarbans, Gulf of Katchch, Gulf of Mannar, Chilka lake(Ramsar Site) including marine national parks in Andaman and Lakshadweep. The Department of Ocean Development has given a management plan for protection of mangroves which is to be implemented by State Governments.
